Vestibular rehabilitation specialists play a crucial role in addressing both the primary and secondary challenges caused by vestibular disorders. The vestibular organ, located in the inner ear, is essential for maintaining balance and equilibrium in daily life.

At Asara Physical Therapy and Balance Clinic, our physical therapists are expertly trained in vestibular rehabilitation, using targeted, exercise-based programs to alleviate symptoms such as vertigo, dizziness, gaze instability (blurred vision), imbalance, and falls.

One common cause of vertigo is Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), a condition where tiny crystals in the inner ear become displaced. This can lead to a spinning sensation triggered by changes in head position, such as rolling over in bed or moving between sitting and standing.

To provide precise and effective treatment for BPPV, our therapists utilize advanced infrared video goggles to accurately evaluate the position of these crystals. This technology allows us to deliver personalized care, helping patients regain stability and improve their quality of life.

Frequently Asked Questions

At Asara Physical Therapy and Balance Clinic, we understand that vertigo can feel overwhelming. Our licensed physical therapists specialize in vestibular therapy and are highly trained in treating conditions like BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo) and dizziness-related disorders.

During your evaluation, we use infrared video goggles to monitor your eye movements and assess how your vestibular system responds to different head positions. You’ll lie on a treatment mat, and your head will be gently guided into specific positions to help identify the root cause of your vertigo.

It’s not uncommon for patients to feel dizzy or nauseous during this part of the evaluation—and in rare cases, some may vomit. While this can be uncomfortable, it helps us make an accurate diagnosis. From there, we perform repositioning maneuvers designed to move loose crystals (otoconia) back to where they belong in the inner ear, relieving vertigo symptoms.

Most patients experience significant improvement in just a few sessions, often feeling relief from the spinning sensation soon after therapy begins.

Since vertigo treatment can sometimes leave you feeling temporarily dizzy or unsteady, we recommend bringing a caregiver, friend, or family member to drive you home after your session.

If that’s not possible, you’re welcome to rest in our comfortable waiting area for 30 to 45 minutes, or however long you need, until you feel safe to drive. Several of our patients without caregivers choose this option and do just fine with a little extra time.

Each appointment lasts about one hour. Most patients are scheduled twice a week for up to 12 weeks, depending on the nature of their condition. After your initial evaluation, your therapist will create a customized treatment plan based on your symptoms, diagnosis, and progress.
