Vestibular Neuritis

Damage to the vestibular nerve can happen from a viral infection, trauma or other reasons. The damage can lead to reduced or no information being sent from vestibular system to the brain.

This can lead to loss of vestibular function in the inner ear. Patients experience feeling of unsteadiness, dizziness, vertigo, blurriness, problems focusing the gaze when moving the head.

Treatment consists of teaching habituation exercises to desensitize the patient to activities causing dizziness and motion sensitivity, and adaptation exercises, improving the gaze stability which is retraining the eyes to focus while moving our head.

Physical Therapists also treat postural instability and balance dysfunction with dynamic walking and substitution exercises.

A physical therapist trained in vestibular rehabilitation can treat your dizziness and help you lead a happy life.
